The plan
Last night we had some Duck Soup for dinner, today we intend to commit a little Monkey Business.

Ya know
A lot of folks have been talking about the death of Jesse Helms.

Sorry kids, Bill Hicks had the last word on Jesse almost 20 years ago.

"But you know they're going to find the skins of young children drying in his attic, swarms of horseflies going in and out of the eaves, and on CNN over and over, his wife going, "I always wondered about Jesse's collection of little shoes." Anyone that far to the right is hiding a deep, dark secret."

Convergence 7/3/08

As I was carrying a copy of Rune 78 (from 1988) for a panel on Minnesota fan history, I ran into one of the contributors! Cryo Ruggie was active on BBSes, local dial-up Citadels, and his son was just getting into the on-line world.

(Note Convergence program schedule along the wall on far right. It's a four five day convention, and it's not over...)

Yay! People gave me movies to watch!

And by "people", I mostly mean the Captain. Thank you, sweetie! (I'm in the mood for pet names today, for some reason. From here on out, you're all my snugglebunnies.)

This stuns me rigid, but I've actually seen some of the suggestions! Gasp and shock! I'll bold them, because I feel like it.

The List Of Suggestions )

Some of the names are partly bolded. That would mean that I've seen part of a series. (For example, I've only ever seen Evil Dead 2 and maybe a bit of the third one. Wait...maybe more than a bit...maybe more like a lot.) Likewise, I've seen about half of Kevin Smith's stuff and...well, you get the idea.

If you've got anything else you think I need to see - and I'm talking to you, snugglebunny - leave me a comment.

So...I finally got my birthday present yesterday!

(Yes, I know my birthday's on May 16th. We tend to do things a little lazily around here. For example, we have yet to celebrate our 1st anniversary and order our wedding pictures from 2006. We are, as most would say, horrific procrastinators.)

Anyway! Ben knows me very, very well, and so his present to me was...a trip to see a bunch of flayed corpses! Yaaaaaaaaaay! (Seriously! Yay!)

http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/bodies.html

I was all set to take a thousand pictures and splatter my friendslist full of lovely pictures of muscles and organs...but they didn't allow cameras inside. *sigh* It was a lot of fun, though, and it was absolutely fascinating to see all that viscera out in the open.

...my god, I sound like a serial killer. I swear I'm just really interested in biology, folks.

At any rate, one of the best things about the exhibition is that only the little fiddly stuff is behind glass. The full bodies (and the split-in-half bodies, and the split-in-third body...) were all just standing on plinths, hanging out, watching the passersby with their little pop-eyed naked faces. It was so neat to be able to point at stuff and say "That's the kidney! That's the spleen! That's the omentum!" (Also, much wincing occurred when a man helpfully identified the liver as the stomach for his small child.) The blood vessel displays were gorgeous!

I highly encourage all of you to go see this if it comes anywhere near you. (Oh. Um...except for those of you that are skeeved out by dead people, particularly dead people playing baseball and high-fiving their halved self.)

After looking at all the nice dead people, we went to dinner. Then we played mini-golf!...which I lost...barely...and then we went to the tiny little arcade! We played Skee-ball and air hockey and made a pair of little girls insanely gleeful when we gave them our tickets.

All in all, it was an awesome day, and it almost made up for not being at ConVergence.

Sexist for a minute.
I'm not usually sexist, nor do I often make big sweeping generalizations, but I have to whine for a minute.

Men are really really bad when it comes to actually reading model call sheets.

No seriously.
Incredibly bad.

I could post something like:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEEDED:
Asian Males
Skinny, 6' or taller
Age 18-24
NON-PAYING, TFP ONLY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And I'll get responses from short, fat, hairy, white, biker, leather-daddies going "I'm interested, how much does it pay?!?!"

At least when (most) women who don't fit the bill write anyway they say things like "I know I'm not right for this call, but if you do something where you need a white girl instead of an asian man, please keep me on file!"

Okay, done whining about that.

Theremin Through The Future!
Convergence 7/4/08

An interesting panel on electronic/modern music with a couple of good theremin players to demonstrate. I didn't catch this worthy's name, but given his t-shirt I'm glad I'm not on his radar.

Independence
Since it's Independence Day, Jordan and I are declaring our from the STUFF in our house.

We both have huge clothes piles to deal with. That's the goal for today. It's really hard (helllllllllllo ocd & hoarding issues) but mine is about 2/3rd sorted and I've filled two give-away garbage bags so far!

But now it's time for a trip to the super-low-tide with my Mama!

Dreams
Last night I had three different dreams about meeting famous people in airports.

WTF?!?!

I also dreamt I made out with a lot of Number Two Cylons (the Leoben model) but that's a whole 'nother story.
