For those of you that attended the O'Gara's show, consider yourselves privileged. That was the last show of the robot band known as THE NICK ATOMS.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Coburn, who is off to greener pastures. While the departure is sudden and unexpected, we understand and wish him well.

As for Dr. Ted Nelson and Wyngarde, they will be resting for an undecided amount of time.

We thank all the people who have written to us, come to our shows, talked with us, sent us stuff, and so on. To friends and family who helped us reach for the heights we did: you were an inspiration to us all.

We also thank the people who helped out with the many behind-the-scenes emergencies. You saved us many times.

We thank the 70s for coming up with the best damn theme songs to play with, and we thank lawyers for not suing the crap out of us. Also thanks to William Shatner for inspiring us with his unique way of seeing things.

We also thank all the people we have worked with over the years, from the small cameo to the big Dementia Smackdown. To all the other music makers and adventure seekers, the Mid-Nite Movie hosts, the people trying to do their own thing, and all the conventions and comic book stores that had us over for a spell: you filled us with creativity and we have been honored to work with you.

The Nick Atoms did have a very full career. We were on the radio. We had shows from bars to conventions. We even played a wedding. We were on TV and were voted second place by music professionals and first place by you, our loyal fans. We had a short lived comic. We served breakfast and educational films. We scored short films and even had a cameo in one while making our own little bits. We did convention panels. We even met Dr. Demento and worked with many celebrities...sort of.

Raid the website while you can, it may not be up for much longer.

While The Nick Atoms may not be bringing music to your ears, you may not have heard the last of The Nick Atoms. It may return in one form or another. For now, we are sorry to say there are no plans and there is nothing in the works -- not even an idea, just quiet sleep.

We hope The Nick Atoms have helped you to hear things in a new way, to see things differently and most importantly, to have a good laugh at the world, others, and yourselves. We hoped we have made your lives better in some way.

We will miss you all and thank you for an amazing five years.

So long and thanks for all the fish…
The Nick Atoms

By now you have probably heard about the upcoming charity album LAUGHTER IS A POWERFUL WEAPON Vol. 2 (FUNNY MUSICIANS FOR A SERIOUS CAUSE) being put together by Grant Baciocco of Throwing Toasters and Jean Prior of Druidsfire Productions.

The disc features recordings by folks such as the Great Luke Ski, The Nick Atoms, Worm Quartet, the Hot Waffles, Barnes & Barnes, Tom Smith, and the Brobdingnagian Bards. All (and we mean *all*) proceeds are going directly
to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina via the American Red Cross. The disc is now in the production stage, and it is at this time where the producers ask your help.

Production of the CD will cost approximately $1500. We are beginning to collect the pressing costs for the CD thanks to private donations. What we are in need of now is approximately 30 "angels" who would be willing to
donate $50 each towards the pressing costs so that we may move forward. Those who donate $50 will have their name in the "thanks" section of the liner notes and will receive a copy of the benefit CD. All money raised above our $1500 goal will be donated to the charity.

For more information or to donate, please go to :
http://www.ThrowingToasters.com/katrinacd

or contact
grant@throwingtoasters.com.

Thank you all in advance for your support of the project, as it will definitely help those who need it.

Let's review them, shall we?

SUPER FUZZ - It was a small, but real release from the WHAM-USA DVD company. Favorite movie as a kid. Coolest. Theme. Song. That. Year. 1981.

FIRE AND ICE - Animated Frazetta/Baski sword and sorcerer epic. Will the rotoscoping hold up? A 'Rock & Rule' Double Feature? Can I get 'Starchaser: The Legend Of Orin' on DVD?

VIVA KNEIVEL - The ONLY Movie to feature Evel Kneivel the stunt man in his ONLY dramic role. With Gene Kelly as an angry, drunk mechanic. (Yes, THAT Gene Kelly...)

INFRA-MAN - China's answer to Ultraman. (WIDESCREEN!)

THE DUEL - A killer truck! If only I had 'Killdozer' to make it a double feature!

SANFORD & SON Season 1 - Lamont was really mean in those first few episodes.

GODZILLA 1954 - Restored and Raymond Burr free!

So there. Thank you for your time. Please take care of your teeth, because if you ignore them, they will go away...

-W-

The Nick Atoms WERE right about Cathy!

Fans of The Nick Atoms are familar with our original hit 'Cathy', about the girl who does not eat breakfast. To this day, we do not know the real reason she does not.

Over the years, we have had many people tell us their reason they believe in this denial of morning nutrition, such as "She has no young to feed" to "It's her mustache" to something this little kid told me once that I've forgotten at the moment, but it was damn cute...Bill Cosby would be proud!

But I digress.

No, science has come into play! (No doubt brown nosers trying to impress the ever brillant Dr. Ted Nelson because THEY can't build Atomic Robots...HA!) Inspired (I imagine) by our tragic, yet upbeat song, I found THIS report:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050909/ap_on_he_me/fit_cereal_obesity

Cathy was damn near pixelish to begin with. Was she secretly eating breakfast? Is this junk science? Was it worth my time to write this crap when I have a giant night of fighting a television audience and judges ahead of me? Do we really need a nation of Paris Hilton looking freaks? Will this convince her to eat something? Does anyone know where Cathy is TODAY? Is Jimmy Olsen a photographer, a copyboy or a reporter?

Either way, Breakfast IS important. So have some bacon for me and wish us luck tonight!

Need to hear Cathy really quick?
http://www.thenickatoms.com/audio_original.html

Considered by some to be a
"loose cannon", he is a robot of
action and spends little time attending to the
small details of a situation. He lives by a
"kentobi first, ask questions later"
mantra.

Which member of The Nick Atoms are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Thanks to nekhochan for making this quiz!

Admiral Ozzel has passed on:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4200884.stm

I only met the man for a few moments in private, but he is responsible for making sure 'Wyngarde', my robot name, is being pronounced properly, among other things. He had many bit roles (He's the Hitler that signed Indy's book in 'Last Crusade').

He also advocated stomping on K-9 from 'Doctor Who'

He drank good whiskey and was a tough old bastard. He told the best dirty jokes and was genuinely a nice guy. The few moments I spent were life changing for me on a personal level. I will miss him.
